real photography

Over the weekend I had the opportunity to spend the day with a skilled local photographer. He was working on some landscape and floral subjects, so we went to the coast and a botanical garden. I was able to assist a few times with shading the camera from the sun, and he was kind enough to take photos of a few thing I suggested. Now, I take a lot of pictures, and I always thought they were pretty good. After he shared the results of this day of shooting with me, I was blown away. Just amazed at how someone who takes photos with just the right angle, lighting, focus, and background, can make things pop and turn everyday things into stunning shots. Here are some he graciously let me post:

And then sorry to harp on this - but it is January in California. It should be winter. The water temp was 57o, the air temp was mid-70's and people were playing in the waves. The kids are in wetsuits, but the grown man who sat on the edge is wearing street clothes (tourist!). No one was hurt while we were there, but I people get hurt/killed by waves fairly regularly... so I'll say it... and I mean it... Don't try this at home. I sure as hell wouldn't!
